Six months after the success of our first concert night between its tall and thick walls, we invite you again to join the Zwaab (a.k.a. Saint-Rémi church) in Molenbeek for a mystical evening on the 24th of May.
For the occasion, we invited Lise Barkas to play her traditional instruments (hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes—these last ones reminiscent of those of our last guest there Henry Birdsey). Also on the bill will be Alice George Perez and Liouba Frydman, who will let their voices resound in the vast edifice, accompanying themselves respectively with guitar and piano (and surprises). We hope we will manage to summon an ambience as spiritual as the one that gratified our last event in this exceptional venue, albeit maybe on a more intimate mode, as the voices will sing lyrics this time.
We are looking forward excitedly to this special evening, hoping you are as well
No presale: entry only in cash at the door, advised price 10€.
Bar available, also cash only.
**Entry price of 10€ is suggested, allowing us to pay the artists fairly. If your income doesn't allow you to pay this price for the concert, we offer a pay-what-you-can policy.
L'artiste Lise Barkas, photographed by Malik Beytrison.
Active for some years already in Strasbourg, Lise Barkas plays the bagpipes and the hurdy-gurdy, two unusual instruments traditionally associated with folk bals. Her influences are nonetheless to find in noise and industrial music, even though she likes to bend genres and incorporate traditional elements to her playing. Akin to that of Henry Birdsey and Claire Bergerault who we invited last november, her music unfolds slowly and focuses on sound texture; she likes to investigate the friction between frequencies and experiments freely.
Even though she will play solo on the 24th, her work is informed by multiple collaborations and group improvisations. She played amongst others with fellow bagpipe-player Lisa Kaüffert and with electronic wizard Yann Leguay (with whom she will be playing on the 23rd at ZK!).

Artist Alice George Perez, photographed by Bárbara Branco.
Alice George Perez is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who has been making music for almost as long as she's been breathing. Influenced by the likes of the Beatles, Sybille Maier and Buffy Sainte-Marie amongst many others, she is a star shining discreetly yet deeply, oscillating between music-hall, americana and folk. Her fingers fly across her guitar's strings as freely as her voice moves between notes; however, her virtuosity is only a means to an end, as her music transcends technique to captivate with the pure emotion therein.

The artist Liouba Frydman, photographed by Daniel Zimmer.
Liouba Frydman has always lived with a piano nearby, but it's only been about three years since he decided to dedicate himself more seriously to music. Since then, he's been producing soundtrack works with his father, as well as writing his own songs, both in French and in English. Playful and tender, his tunes are imbued with feeling (sensory and sentimental), some crazyness and a good dose of livelyness. He is unpredictable and likes to surprise his audience—always softly, but be warned.
As a total artist, he also likes to draw fuzzy oneirical creatures and his work has been featured a couple of times on our posters.
