We invite you on the 2nd of May in the nave of the Zwaab for an evening of acoustic concerts in the spirit of our first night at the church: raw performances without electric amplification inviting to an attentive—perhaps, even, meditative—listening.

Touring Europe, the American Austin Larkin (friend of Henry Birdsey of Tongue Depressor, who we invited in 2024) will present his throbbing violin solo. Visiting from the Netherlands, Janneke van der Putten will sing, showcasing her unusual extended techniques. And local player Lukas De Clerck will be joined by Madison Greenstone to present a brand new duo.

No presale: entry only in cash at the door, advised price 10€.
Bar available, also cash only.

**Entry price of 10€ is suggested, allowing us to pay the artists fairly. If your income doesn't allow you to pay this price for the concert, we offer a pay-what-you-can policy.

Austin Larkin

Austin Larkin

Artist Austin Larkin playing the violin.

Coming to us from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean for a new Europe tour, Austin Larkin is a composer working with the violin, with bells and sirens. As stated on his website, he uses the violin “as an instrument to accentuate space, rather than to fill space”. Interested in resonance, space, the workings of the inner ears, and the various interactions between them, he composes music inviting to a deeper listening.

His influences include Jessika Kenney and Eyvind Kang, with whom he studied. He is a friend of Henry Birdsey, who played a bagpipe and harmonica performance for our first evening in the church at the end of 2024. Together, they play and release as the duo Formant. Austin also appeared as guest on a handful of releases from Tongue Depressor, the cult duo of Henry forms with Zach Rowden.

Janneke van der Putten is an artist currently living in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. She works mainly with her voice and, within her work, she “moves away from the usual modern parameters of amplification and synthesis, focusing instead on the space’s and body’s resonance in the here and now.”
